Devblog 13 – Archer class!

Welcome back to the Rekt Games devblog! Let’s get straight to it.

We are proud to announce that the archer class is in the game and we’re having a blast experimenting and testing it.

What we’ve proceeded with is the archer class, holding a typical bow. To attack, players need to pull back the right thumbstick/mouse away from the place they intend to shoot, in order to draw the bow. The longer the player holds, the faster and further the arrow goes. With this implementation, we want players to feel as if they are actually drawing the bow backwards and as they let go of the thumbstick/mosue, so does the character. It truly creates a different, realistic feeling of controling the bow.

What’s most interesting is that it has changed the feel of the game overall, as this is the first ranged class we have implemented. Being ranged, first of all it has broken up the cluster of melee players as they know they will get hit by arrows if they stay grouped up. Second, it creates an incredibly game of chase where the ranged class tries to kite the melee players while still shooting arrows.

One thing we haven’t finished yet is the secondary, special attack. What do you think should be the archers special attack? Perhaps, a multishot, a bigger arrow, explosion arrow, a knockback kick? Let us know!
